Celebrating the life of

Gertrude (Trudy) A. Conklin

August 18, 1933 - November 13, 2018

Gertrude (Trudy) A. Conklin

It is with great sadness that the family announces the unexpected passing of Gertrude (Trudy) Ann Conklin, on Tuesday, November 13th, 2018 at the age of 85. Born August 18th, 1933, Trudy grew up in New Jersey where she raised her family, and then moved to Connecticut before she and her husband retired to Savannah in 1993. For the last 50 years, one of her favorite joys was spending summers in East Hampton, Long Island.

A devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, she is survived by her loving husband of 63 years, Robert E. Conklin, her daughters and their husbands Joanne M. and Robert H. Blake and Robin E. and Gregory L. Olson, and her son Robert W. Conklin and his wife Cecilia Neumann, 11 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.

Trudy was devoted to her many charities, was an avid animal lover, including caring for the many animals who would show up on her doorstep, and a superb cook and gardener.  But most of all, she was devoted to her family and her faith.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. James Catholic Church, 8412 Whitefield Ave, Savannah, GA on Saturday, November 17th, 2018, at 1:00 p.m. Calling hours for family and friends will be held at St. James Catholic Church on Friday, November 16th, 2018 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.

Burial will be privately held at Most Holy Trinity Cemetery in East Hampton, NY.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made in Trudy’s name to North Shore Animal League.

Our heartfelt thoughts and prayers go out to Uncle Bob, Robin, Jodi and Bobby and all of those grandkids and great grandkids. We are so sad to hear of the loss of Aunt Trudy. I have so many fond memories of her. From her yummy noodles with poppy seeds, to her saying "for cryin out loud" which I always say. She was always smiling. I know that she is at peace and probably up there in heaven with my mom and dad smiling down on us. Love you guys.

During this most difficult time, may your hearts be comforted by Jehovah God's promise to "wipe out every tear from our eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore".(Rev. 21:4) Also during the days to come, may Mrs. Conklin's sweet memories fill your hearts with joy and peace.

You are all in my thoughts and prayers. The first time I met Trudy was at her daughter Robin’s house so I could met her dog Willie who I was going to be dog sitting. Trudy welcomed me and Willie liked me, so we were a go for dog sitting when the family went away to celebrate Bob and Trudy’s 50th wedding anniversary. I can see Trudy and Bob coming outside to greet us each time I went to visit the beach. It was always touching to see Trudy send us on the way home by making the Sign of the Cross. She will be greatly missed.
